Our pastor …The Rev. Nathan D. Pipho PDF Print E-mail

Pastor Nathan (as we call him) grew up in Iowa and now lives in North Quincy.  He earned his B.A. degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa (1998) and a Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (2002).   Good Shepherd voted to call Pastor Nathan as our pastor on August 4, 2002, and he began in September 2002.

During Pastor Nathan’s tenure we have grown in faith, love, and service.  We have held bible studies at Panera Bread, gone door-to-door inviting our neighbors to church and to collect food, hosted Neighborhood Block Parties, and have attempted to be a good neighbor in our Montclair neighborhood.   Through his sermons, in his bible studies, and through his ministry, Pastor Nathan encourages us to grow deeper in our faith, to know the grace and love of God through Jesus Christ, and challenges us to live as disciples of Jesus.  During the summer of 2008, we blessed Pastor Nathan with a three-month sabbatical and he has come back energized, enthused, and ready to minister with us in new ways as we continue to be faithful to God’s guidance.

In addition to his parish duties, Pastor Nathan also serves in various roles in the New England Synod.  In the summer of 2004, Bishop Margaret Payne appointed Pastor Nathan as the chair of the New England Synod Task Force for Gay and Lesbian Understanding.  He continues to serve in that capacity as the Task Force helps the synod grow in its understanding and welcome of GLBT persons.  In January 2007, his colleagues elected him to serve as dean of the sixteen congregation Boston Metro Conference.  In this ministry, Pastor Nathan coordinates monthly meetings of the conference leaders and serves as another link between the bishop and the local parishes.

Pastor Nathan enjoys living in Quincy and in New England.  When he’s not busy being our pastor, you can find him playing softball or flag football or enjoying Cape Cod.   We are glad Pastor Nathan is our pastor and we hope that you will have a chance to meet him soon!
